This year the school council is very enthusiastic and keen to represent the students of Henderson Intermediate School. They have selected these charities to fundraise for - the Red Puppy Appeal, CanTeen, St John’s and KidsCan. Each term they focus on one charity to support. Term One was the Red Puppy Appeal and a speaker came to assembly and brought her guide dog to show us how much her life was enriched by having a trained guide dog. It costs a lot of money to train an assistance puppy - and the student council want to help.
The council held a sausage sizzle in Term 1 to raise money. They were also very involved in planning the first school disco for the year. The theme was ‘Celebrate your Culture’, and the night was a lot of fun. The councillors took turns cooking sausages and selling food and drinks, to raise money for their causes.
Councillors report back to their classes about what they are doing, and bring suggestions and problems from the classes to the council meetings. The head students will present a report to the Board every term.
